mute.rigent.com

Sat, July 31st, 2004 by Emily (Beautiful Life)

I've just recently found mute.rigent.com, which has some amazing photos. I think Miles has just started photoblogging recently (?) since there isn't a huge archive as yet, but all the entries are consistently noteworthy. And while it's in its infancy, better that everyone knows about it.

Some of my favourites are these:

Words in photographs

Sat, July 31st, 2004 by matt osullivan

Out of curiosity I just went through all the photos on my site and found that about 1/3 include words in a significant way.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing in their own photography, or can point me towards any photographers who might be relevant to this.

Thanks!

Photoblogging While Travelling

Sat, July 31st, 2004 by Amanda Gilligan

I will be undergoing a rather big trip overseas in the coming months and I am starting to ponder how on earth I will be able to post to my photoblog at the rate I do now.
I know it won't be possible, and without photo upload software, editing software and a scanner, I am not even sure how I am going to get my photos online, let alone post to my blog.
Does anyone have any experience with photoblogging while you've been travelling?
Did you post from a friend's computer or is it possible to use a net cafe?

Any thoughts on this topic would be much appreciated.

Leave a comment if you can make it down.

*~upgrading your digital camera~*

I'm getting ready to upgrade and was wondering. . .
for all of you who have already done so,
(or if you are in the process of doing so),
which one did you (would you) pick and why?

I've been comparing specs @ dpreview.com; looking at the photoblogs I've admired and seeing what these amazing photographers use; and have generally narrowed it down to a few choices; but before I make a major purchase like this, I thought I'd put it to the experts. =)

Photojournalism and Blogs

Thu, July 29th, 2004 by Brandon Stone

I got this in an email and thought it was a good question for the blog:

I'm looking into photoblogs that also try to provide commentary/insight into current events. Sort of a hybrid of photojournalism and blogs. Are you aware of any such sights?

B/W Digital workflow

Wed, July 28th, 2004 by Brian Poulsen

Being a digital photographer, you don't have the luxury of the power of black and white film like Ilford.
That means you have to convert it to black and white yourself (unless your camera has that build in as a feature).
What I'm curious about is, what do you do when you convert your shots to black and white?

Are we talking a plain black and white gradient layer over the image, or is it just desaturated or something else?
What do you believe gives the best result/authentic feel and look?

Spotlight: photo.hipoxia

Today marks one year for photo.hipoxia - which is about 7 blog years in my view and a noteworthy event. Some of you might know Brian as he is a frequent commentor on other blogs. Brian uses his photo.hipoxia site to provide a visual narrative of the world around him with descriptions that always add context to the image. Today, in particular, Brian could use some good karma, which you can send here.

Multiple or single photo entry?

Sun, July 25th, 2004 by Emily (Beautiful Life)

There are basically two ways photologs are usually constructed:
(1) one photo per entry (most photologs)
(2) multiple photos per entry, such as my own or rion.nu or bastish.net, to list but a few.

Until May I'd stuck with the one photo per entry construct, but then I decided that I would prefer to post multiple photos per entry, especially if they shared the same theme or were taken at the same time - a series.

But it seems to me there are some difficulties, such as when you want to contextualize each photo separately, it can get a bit messy.

And also individual entries seem more 'commentable', if you like. That's what I find anyway. That people are more likely to comment on separate individual photos rather than a whole series.

What do you think?

Photo Spotlight: EXP

Serving up delicious images since December 31, 2002, Jose Luis is in the midst of a photo-a-day for 31 days project. He's doing this exercise in part, to renew his photoblog interest. I have been following his images for some time, and admire his eye for composition and his use of color. Recently, his portraits have been especially striking, such as this and this.

Check it out and send good karma here
