Card publishing software

Wed, December 1st, 2004 by JamesK

I was thinking of making Christmas cards this year instead of buying a load as usual, using my photos; as a starting point. Does anyone know of any software, preferably free for a poor student(!), that allows you to do this easily?

I've tried making cards using MSWord but have issues priniting to the edge of the page - is this a separate problem? (I've tried making page margins "0" which doesn't solve it)

Thanks!

You can't print to the edge of the page unless your printer specifically allows you create borderless prints. Often borderless prints can only be created on specific paper sizes. Can you print bordless images in programs other than word?

i make very low tech cards james. i use poster board, or stiff paper, mod podge and regular 4x6 prints. i like to use soft metallic paints on the paper or just keep them simple and white. inside i use stencils to create the greetings with metallic pens. i have made some nice cards that way and it is very inexpensive. this year i'm making homemade stationary for gifts in the same way leaving the inside blank using photocopies of some prints for a more graphic look.

one other option is to make postcards with your prints, many camera shops, and craft stores sell backing to turn any photo into a postcard. again simple, unexpected and inexpensive. if you are worried about your prints getting ruined in the mail, then mail the postcard in an envelope.

    good luck!

check out https://www.mycardmaker.com/ - it's a flash tool to make your own cards.

it sounds like you maybe don't have a full-bleed printer so if you can find a border you like in this tool, you'll be all set.

It seems that we share the same thought for Christmas. I too is planning on printing out some pictures from my collection and sending it out to close friends and family. However, since I'm lack of a decent printer to print the cards, I'm going to send it to my local printing shop. They advised me to put my design on a PDF file and they'll do the rest. The cost is no different than if I have to buy normal Christmas cards, so I'm pretty happy.

Can't you just cut the white edges? Or send the design as e-cards? :)
