Thank you all for the unbelievable support! I had no idea the Photoblogs.org Fund Drive would be completed so quickly. You are amazing.
I'm looking forward to moving Photoblogs.org to the new server as soon as possible. In the meantime, the site is still at it's old location and service will continue to be sporadic. (This means that nasty 503 error will continue to happen.)
I had hoped to make the server move this weekend, but now I'm getting offers from hosting companies to help us out even further... so I've got more decisions to make.
Also, I've gotten several emails from people who would like to continue to donate even though the fund drive is over. I'm thrilled with this, but we've met our goal. If you'd like to continue to give, I'm sure any one of these places would appreciate more help.
Edit: added link at the beginning of this post to the fund drive page.

Well done. Thanks again. Also very classy to post the further links to non-profits. You did't need another Hummer anyway.

Is it possible for you to leave it open so even MORE people can continue to support this marvelous website?
January 28th, 2005 at 8:16 am
A different Gordon this time - sorry I missed the chance to donate, I'll offer my money as you suggest though. Best of luck with the server move and thanks for everything you've done with photoblogs. It's made my own photography better, whilst I marvel at those featured on your site.
bravo.

Wow, this is great news. I had a feeling the drive would be a quick success. Glad I could help...if not for your site, I'd have far fewer eyes on my own.
Cheers Everyone!

Yeah, that's exciting news! What a wonderful community to belong to.

To Gordon, the first:
"You did't need another hummer anyway."
I *never* imagined that I would *ever* hear *those* words come out of a man's mouth. And yes, that's a double entendre.
To Brandon:
While I think your encouragement to donate to the "the tsunami fund" is noble, I sort of feel... inadequate and as if I failed to help out when called upon. I really, really wanted to help you, as a *huge* thank you... but funds are unavailable until Monday. So now I feel... sorta useless. Blah.
January 28th, 2005 at 2:50 pm
Yeah, I have to admit while being impressed with the turnout I wish I could have taken part too, and feel a little bummed. But I suppose waiting until the end of the month for those of us with funds available then wouldn't necessarily have been best for the site!
So yeah, a huge thank you!

I got in right on the tailend with my modest donation (student budget) but it did feel nice to able to help. Makes me feel proud to be amongst all these great people.
January 28th, 2005 at 4:08 pm

Thanks

January 29th, 2005 at 7:01 pm
I missed out on this one. I thought I'd have a few days to get back to it. But I'm sure glad to see the community being so helpful. Not only is Brandon a class act, but also this community rocks.

Hi,
Had an idea recently ... wouldn't it be cool to have a site where photographers worldwide can add their best shots .... a showcase on the world.
Well, fingers crossed guys, but http://www.photoexhibition.org could just be the place ... give it a try, its free, of course, and hopefully waiting to receive the best of the web.
As ever, there's bound to be issues and problems and errors ... let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Have fun!

I paid for the new server yesterday. Now I need to do the following before Photoblogs.org is up and running well again.
1) Configure the new server to my liking.
2) Upgrade necessary programs to the right versions.
3) Backup the existing Photoblogs.org database and site.
4) Transfer Photoblogs.org db/site to new server.
5) Test everything to make sure it's working.
6) Go live.
I'm not going to give a timeframe for completing this, but I can tell you that I'll be doing this in the evenings after work.
Will keep you posted with progress.

Good luck. Hope it's going well
February 3rd, 2005 at 8:20 am
Brandon, when the new server is up an running, would you be so kind as to start a new thread here announcing it?
I've decided to take down the photoblogs.org links/images on my home page until the new server is up, and will restore them once the transition is complete. I have no idea how many were clicking through, but I don't my users to see the 503: it erodes the confidence in other links.
Thanks!
February 3rd, 2005 at 8:51 am
Wonderful, Frank.
February 3rd, 2005 at 12:08 pm
brandon, i just want you to know that i am going to proudly display my photoblogs.org links even though they are broken and eagerly await the launch of your new servers. best of luck! we're all thankful for you.
February 3rd, 2005 at 1:31 pm
Brandon, the photo of the dog on your site (Eager Beast #886) is super cute. I like how he blends into the background. Is that your dog?
February 3rd, 2005 at 2:35 pm
Thanks, Tara... That is, indeed, my dog.
February 3rd, 2005 at 2:37 pm
Also, here's my updated to do list:
1) Backup the existing Photoblogs.org database and site.
2) Transfer Photoblogs.org db/site to new server.
3) Test everything to make sure it's working.
4) Go live.
If all goes well, we'll be back up tonight or tomorrow night.
February 3rd, 2005 at 3:36 pm
Brandon, that's great! Thanks for all the hard work I'm sure you're doing!
