Self-Portrait Day
The site actually goes live next Thursday, so things are still in the very early stages.

Brandon, thank you very much for the shout out. My husband knows of you/about you. I hadn't realized you were a part of some older message boards I was on as well. Pretty cool!
Anyway, for those of you who are interested, that's great because the more the merrier. We are filling up really fast and are really surprised by how well it's being recieved. Any input/suggestions is also greatly appreciated. Our goal is to create a launching pad and "save face on the internet." (So-to-speak :])
Thanks, again. You folks are swell.

Hey, Ian. You really need to stop following me.
I tease.

cruel. the restraining order said nothing about the internet.

that is to say, um, that i am within my legal rights as far as i understand them. this is not any sort of threat, okay?

It's pretty amazing how everyone is loosely connected like this. I think we're all just playthings in a sick game that Ian is orchestrating.

there are really only six people on the internet -- it's the costume changes that are amazing.

I hope this opens a can of creative worms for photographers in making their own self portraits, instead of seeing the traditional self portrait pic of:
1. Taking a picture of oneself in the mirror where their giant camera body covers up about 80% of their face, hence its more of a camera body self portrait.
2. Self portait holding their camera with the biggest, longest lens in their camera bag, oh and be sure to attach that hood so it looks even longer! Big cameras and lenses makes you an instant badass!
I'd love to see this pushed to the highest levels of creativity as possible!

They stopped taking entries by email. Users can submit via a webform when the site launches.

I've been working all weekend on custom software for SPD. It will roll out with the site on Thursday. We really didn't anticipate the tens of thousands of folks who would visit the first week and the hundreds who would submit in the first couple of days.
We were hoping to code as it grew, but quickly realized there was a need for a solid back end right away.

On a different subject... Does anyone know how to stop TypePad from publicly linking to people's email addresses?
I can't seem to find a setting that allows me to change this. I know the addresses are encoded to help stop spammers from reading them, but I'd rather not share them at all.

Brandon - I can help you poke around and mod the system. It's GPL or LGPL, right? I can take a peek tonight. Email me about it if you wanna dig around.

Oh, wait - I just noticed you were referring to TypePad, the SA hosted thing. I was confused for a second.
I don't know anything about TypePad, but if they're using XSL for the presentation and you have access to it, we can mod that...?

explain your concern, brandon. it looks like typepad obfuscates the email to prevent spam harvesters and by this point i think most of the spam paranoid folks use spamspecific addresses for the sites that they distrust.

I suppose it's mostly a privacy issue. I get the feeling that some people may be posting their email addresses here without realizing that they'll be shared with the world.
