The Way We See It is a new site where every week a group of photographers visit and capture a different part of London in their own inimitable style. The project aims to see how differently people view and perceive the same place through the lens.
Next week, from 03.03.05 until 07.03.05 I will be in New York and was wondering if there's any interest in running a special 'The Way We See it' in conjunction with the usual London one, whilst i'm there. If there's a good response to this and someone can come up with a suggestion of a place (central Manhattan please!) - then i'll set the project up .... take a look at what we've been doing by visiting www.thewayweseeit.org

I was thinking about setting up a group like this in NYC but just haven't had the time. Count me in, although I'm not sure what you nean by central manhattan. Are you thinking of Midtown and Times Square?

Mmmmmmm... Richard, this is a wonderful idea! Maybe you could make a detour to Chicago? Like March 13 for our next shootout?
I agree with y_m. Sounds like there should be spinoff groups worldwide. New York, Chicago, Bay Area, Paris, Budapest, Peoria... they should be everywhere. Well, at least where there's critical mass and interest. I'm sure that some of us in the Chicago Photobloggers group (http://chicago.photobloggers.org) would be interested in doing something similar in the Windy City.
Good luck and keep shooting!

I'd love to be part of the NYC one if the outing matches my schedule!

That sounds like fun.

Oh, and I just realized that you had asked for a suggestion for a place... the most obvious choice to me would be Central Park, because it is definitely "central" and the good outdoor lighting affords everyone a chance to get good shots, regardless of equipment. I don't know how specific a location you had in mind, but we could pick a specific area of the park - like perhaps Bethesda Terrace?

Your Waitress, why don't you go for it, see if you can set one up in your area and link into ours!
I think it would be great if cities all over the globe did this and we could all link into eachothers, that would be cool!
I can't even begin to describe how enjoyable it is, and it's so great to see how everyone else visiting the same place has a different perspective on what they see.
It's been a great learning curve for me, too. I'm really glad to be part of the The Way We See It.

Oh God please no! after the Gates I am done with Central Park for awhile...

Nice concept! Not sure I could make it, but a couple of locations that I think could be interesting and maybe not entirely obvious - or maybe they just are my own idea of Midtown, good or bad, which I guess is what you mean by Central Manhattan:
Diamond District (47th between 6th and 5th)
Restaurant Row (46th between 9th and 8th)
Port Authority Terminal (42nd and 9th)
Bryant Park (42nd between 6th and 5th)
Fashion District (7th between 42nd and 34th)

Darieus, I was actually thinking of it the other way - I can't wait to snap off some more shots in a Gates-free Central Park again
I'm open to anywhere in the city though - there are certainly a lot of great non-obvious spots too, like Columbus or Amsterdam Ave around the 70s and 80s.

This is great! It's exactly what I suggested in another thread a number of weeks ago, and you can count me in.
If we set up anything on a continual basis, I'd recommend overlapping two week periods, to allow greater flexibility in locations and for people's schedules. I'd also suggest a far more restricted area than "Central Park," because if there's too much freedom to select the spot you don't get enough continuity to see differences in perspective. (Very glad to see that Abhi is also focusing on a specific area.)
In this construct (one week), I'd recommend we limit the E-W boundaries to 3rd Ave on the E and 8th on the W -- my thought is that one block E/W of the subway lines is "central."

I've become part of The Way We See It, and although I don't get to London as much as I would like, it is a super project. I'd highly recommend joining in!

i wasn't trying to imply that i would be able to set it up, but would love to be a part of it if someone else in the bay area did one. hint hint to all you cyber savvy kids here. i'm just not that cool.

Is this happening? Seems like a good idea.

This is happening! We're heading to Port Authority Terminal (42nd and 9th) - submissions due on 14.03.05 - goto http://www.thewayweseeit.org to find out more info!
