Get out of your comfort zone.

Tue, July 5th, 2005 by Frank Lynch

In the thread on Brandon's newly developed randomizer (hooray! hooray! hip, hip... SO hip!) I suggested we would do well to clean up the database by using the alphabetical, country, or language indexes to root out the defunct - - only because the pages make it easier to get to the profiles and tag for deletion.

Well, I did Arabic, Breton, Catalan, Chinese, and now I'm into Czech, and what do I see?

sixtimesnine. (Profile here.) Some really great shots, very eye catching. Not really "street photography," but definitely worth a looksee.

(Personally, I think the fact that only 5 people list this blog as a favorite is an indication of how much is out there that we don't know about. I continue to believe that language is a barrier for those of us who only speak English, and that we're missing out on a lot of great photography.)

Thank you for calling attention to such an interesting blog!

~one aspect to this web site that I am continually impressed by is its international makeup and design...all peoples, all places, all images, one source. I struggle at times to add to faves, but I do, and it seems to be someone that only has 1-10 people listed...for that is where I spend most of my surfing time now-a-days, and I end up neglecting my usual stops along the way...thnx for ntoing a VERY eye-catching site, now one of my faves and a site I will visit~

Agreed. Language shouldn't be a barrier for photobloggers.

    Images are universal.

Great post, some superb photography there, especially the black and whites.

I think that language is a factor in some blogs not being noticed, but I think we're getting to the point where there are simply so many great photoblogs out there it will be impossible to visit all of the ones we know once a week if we spent two hours a day doing it.

I love browsing photography and I think I have to turn to RSS to make my browsing more efficient and allow me to visit only sites that have been updated. I feel like I don't want to miss anything!

In this regard I've asked Joe Holmes to post in Flemish, and Sam to write in 15th C Flembo.

I think Brandon's engine is, by far, the best. Sam's knowledge of Flembo, sadly, doesn't go back that far.

An excellent link; thank you. You're absolutely spot on with the observation, of course, and I've found a couple of my preferred sites that way. Of course, the favourites system will shortly be cut out of the picture, so the follow the crowd mentality it promoted is going to be replaced by a different dynamic. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Wow! What a great shot! I'm in agreement. I've found some fantastic blogs while using the randomizer.

Randomizer is fantastic. Great idea. Photoblogs is an excellent service and I am really glad to see it move from the whole favourites concept and vote trading back to cool photography content. All the best.

It must be getting lots of hits now - I've been trying to get there for 12 hours now and it keeps timing out.

There are a lot of other good photoblogs here that aren't widely known by others. Sixtimesnine is defintely one of them!

Hi, I'm rather surprised to see my photo here. Thank for your interest Frank. My photoblog isn't frequently updated as I haven't much time for it (and I do not shoot sufficient amount of photos for every day updates). Despite the english name of my blog my english is quite poor and I began to wrote it mainly for my Czech friends, but maybe I'll add english descriptions of my future shots.
