pdnonline's David Walker writes about how bystander journalism, found particularly in picture sharing services such as Flickr and in photoblogs, has made it easier for news organizations to find remarkable photographs taken by amateur photographers of breaking news events, such as the recent London bombings.

I work for a news organization and can you that in general they seem frightened to death of the blogging phenomenon, as if bloggers will steal their thunder or something.
You will notice they cannot even utter the word "blogger" or "photoblogger", as if they're dirty words. They've created the terms "bystander journalists" or in the case of the broadcast media, "citizen journalists" as if they need to legitimize it in some way.
Anyone else noticed this?
