The incident described by Thomas Hawk has snowballed. There is now a photo contest and a protest organised.
And you can also upload your pictures on Flickr.

Now if only I lived in San Francisco...

Geez, it's not even that nice of a building. I don't understand the reason for making a stance for something so mundane.

The protest announcement has been removed by Craigslist. I wonder why?

It was probably removed, because it is now in the past. I think it happened on Saturday.

I went down there on Saturday but arrived late. Apparently there was quite a crowd and CBS covered the photo shoot here locally on the news in the Bay Area.
Fortunately I think somebody from the builidng must have gotten the memo because, at least for me, shooting the building on Saturday was a piece of cake. I was not hasseled by security and seemed to have free reign of the exterior of the building to shoot. I shot photos for about an hour. I published my 35 favorites in a set at flickr:

I think all of the attention to this matter very likely had the building's management re-evaluate their no photography policy. I'll be back from time to time to shoot more of the building but it was nice having open access on Saturday.
It really is a beautiful building form an architectural standpoint if you are into modern architecture.

Reminds me of that subway train photo ban protest.
