I find myself fascinated with the colours and texture but a little wary of what's in the jar...

At first it just looked like rose petals, but on closer inspection it looks more like polished rocks.

Yeah... I'd have to go with the polished rocks theory... Either that or a selection of various body parts.

hmm, I was thinking tongues... maybe that's a reflection of my own deeper instincts....

Since you felt the reflection of the tabletop has such importance and framed the jar dead center, the shot would have more impact if shot vertically and closer, giving a bigger, closer shot of the jar and its reflection. Or, lose the reflection and shoot closer horizontally. Notice how cropping off the bottom of the shot just past the big white highlight on the reflection improves the compostion?

I actually like the choice of composition. If it was cropped any further it would lose the nice ambient texture of the back wall. I think it gives the jar an interesting context to live in.
