  4. Kenny Says:

Such a pleasure to watch this photo.

  5. helen Says:

Not to be a negster but I find this a pretty average portrait.. The heavy handed photoshopping doesn't help.

  6. Ryan Says:

    Whoa, thanks guys!

heavy handed photoshop helen? how about next to none. what made you think that?

  7. mr bill Says:

The deliciously shallow DOF is incredible, Ryan. Well done. Did you use a view camera or just open really wide for this?

  8. Ryan Says:

Thanks Bill, it was shot open at 1.2 (85mm).

  9. blondie Says:

Re DOF how did you get her hair to have a few inches of DOF and her face a few millimeters?

  10. Biyang Hansen Says:

    Amazing portrait!

The DOF looks like PS post-editing to me too, but if you say it isn't of course I'll trust you Ryan, and just say - good lens work! :-)

I really like the delicate colours, and the way the dark eyes contrast them.

  11. Ryan Says:

blondie, thats perspective..looking down a tad.

    Thanks Biyang...

whoa so it looks fake to people? Its really simple...15yr old girl (great skin!)hanging out downtown with boyfriend who was skating. I pull them over about 6ft from a neutral wall, 85mm 1.2 Canon lens wide open, modify the light a little, talk, shoot, done. I never really thought something so simple could be percived as fake.

  12. zac Says:

if this is an average photograph... i aspire to be average.

  13. Brandon Stone Says:

Not sure where the "fake" comments are coming from either. It may be that people aren't used to seeing the bokeh on your lens... It's just so super smooth and even... 1.2!

  14. Mute Says:

Personally I just enjoy the portrait, I'm not particularly bothered whether it's real or not, she has such a serene but direct gaze, endlessly deep eyes, the depth of field really suits the subject and her serenity.

I assume that someone who doesn't like this kind of portrait does so because it's not to their taste, not because it's photoshopped or not.

this is just a gorgeous portait and looks quite natural to me. the soft tones suit her porcelain skin and bring out those dark intense eyes. excellent work ryan and great choice miles!
