The cost of converting to SD from CF for me is about $750...making the D80 "equal" to the cost of the D200

Hi everyone,
Over the summer i worked with a videographer at my church. he threw me in with the sharks i did a wedding with a cannon rebel xt. i liked the camera. i also have a passion for photography something i never new i had. i did a total of 2 weddings over the summer. i can't explain it but its just an addrinaline rush when you're up there shooting. nothing else matters, nothing else exists. i'm the boss now. It just feels great. I like it I'm 33 now. i bull sh*ted all my life. i droped so many classes because i didn't know what i wanted to do with my life. now i know. i like photography. And i want to make some money doing it. i know i wont blow up in 1 day. its something i enjoy and if i can make a few extra cash on the weekends then i'll have to shoot for it. i'm even trying to open it as my own bussiness. i'm also going to get my trade papers so it reads mr so and so doing business as a photographer. one day i wish to have my own studio.
anyway i was in Costco the other day and i met this hoe,i asked her name and she said her name was Nikon i said how old are you she said 80, i replied i have a little cash in my pocket why don't you get ya pretty self off the show case and come home with me. she said $$$ talks bull sh*t walks,so i will be getting my hoe miss Nikon D 80 next week. She makes me so happy when i first saw her i fell in love seems to me those other hoes don't have a chance. at night i just see $$$ sighns cause i feel she will bring me lots of cash those other hoes are just trash. next week i'll tell Ms Cannon XT to hit the road. i found a new lady in my life. Mrs Nikon D80.

i enjoyed everyone's replies. My favorite one is from Rohit.
I love the part where he says"So if one can afford to indulge, then just go ahead."
I believe he has a very good point.I also agree with the part were he says most pro cameras are purchased be "rich" amatures.
Thank you all for your inputs,

Thank you so much for you reply, Rohit. You have helped me make that decision to go for the D200 while I can or I should say while I have the money.

Thanks!!

Hello Bolton,
I would say just factor in the money. I always say if you can afford it…buy it. According to me it’s true even if you do not need some features right now. I mean there is no reason to not to buy a D200 right now if its easily affordable (unless you are specifically looking for lighter and smaller camera). A lot of time I hear people speaking out against such purchase and generally the logic goes….
1. You don’t need those features, only professional need then.
2. You don’t need expensive camera to make great photograph
3. A lot of professionals use D50 ….and so on.

All the above point is true and I agree with it.

However if one can easily (mind you I say easily) afford a D200 or other more expensive model then I really do not think there is any harm. In fact most of the professional cameras are bought by rich armatures. If tomorrow hobbyist and these armatures stop buying these cameras Cannon and Nikon will be in a big trouble.
So if one can afford to indulge, then just go ahead.

For those who are more sensitive to cost, yes D50 is a good deal and most will be satisfied with it. Check out its features and if you think you do not need the extra features of D70 or D80 then go for it.

One more point to consider is, how long you wish to keep the camera before you are ready to replace it. In case you want to stick with it for a long time say next 4 to 5 years then go for a D80 if you can afford it. You may not need the extra features right now but in future as you grow into photography then you might need it.

Finally in case anyone is going for a D50 may want to wait a bit because most probably a new entry level camera might be introduced soon which will be to D80 what D50 was to D70.
