Photographer James Nachtwey has won the 12th Annual Heinz Award for Arts and Humanities, the Pittsburgh-based Heinz Family Foundation announced today. The award carries a $250,000 prize.
Past winners have included academics, scientists, physicians, and artists. Nachtwey is the first photographer to receive one of the awards. Read the entire article.

And well deserved it is to. It will be interesting to see whether he continues his work or uses the prize for a major project.

It is well deserved. I have seen his work before, ad can't look very much, it is that good and causes that much emotion. He is an amazing photographer.

Bravo, Bravo! Its photographers like Nachtwey who have dedicated their lives to photographing the human condition on film that keep it all alive.

Fascinating work and without a doubt, well deserved. I went through every photo twice and some of his images are still burned in my mind.

it would be nice to see some governments following the meaning of those words... an utopistic desire!
