Do yourself a favor and check out Issue 3 of MakingRoom Magazine. These are some of the smartest, most talented, most-non-self-aggrandizing people I know. In short, they rock.

Annual Europe Photobloggers Meetup!

Wed, July 18th, 2007 by Brandon Stone

Every year a group of photobloggers get together in a different European city to share some laughs, visit a pub or two, and otherwise do their photography thing. This year it's all taking place in the spectacular city of Berlin! The 2007 event will be the weekend of September 7-9, so get on over to the website and check it out...

There's photos, maps, announcements, links, discussions, and all that good stuff. (I've been to the past two events and, hot damn, what fun!)

NYC Agrees To Reopen Debate On Film Permit Regulations

Mon, July 16th, 2007 by Susan B.

Following a request from the NYCLU, New York City has agreed to reopen the period for members of the public to submit comments about a controversial new city proposal that would require formal permits for a wide range of casual photography. Last Friday the City informed the NYCLU that it now will accept comments until Friday August 3.

The New York Civil Liberties Union says the proposed rules, as strictly interpreted, could cause selective and perhaps discriminatory enforcement by police. The ruling was designed with professional photographers and filmmakers in mind, but the obscure language draws no distinctions.

For more information visit the NYCLU's website.

Wall Street Journal Says "Happy Blogiversary"

Sun, July 15th, 2007 by Brandon Stone

Recently the Photoblogs.org Blog was mentioned in a meaty Wall Street Journal article called Happy Blogiversary. (Search near the middle-bottom of the article for a guy called "Dick Costolo"... he's the one with the snazzy glasses.)

The Journal asked 12 commentators to list some of their favorite blogs, and Costolo, group product manager of Google, selected us as one of his favorites. (Dick's the guy who recently sold his company, FeedBurner, to Google for a reported $100 million.) The article talks about the history and influence of blogging over the past 10 years including commentary from Tom Wolfe, Newt Gingrich, Mia Farrow, and more. Has it really been 10 years?

Anyhow, I just wanted to give a quick tip of the hat to Miles Storey and all the other editors of this blog, who have made this a place worth visiting. Rock on!
