NYC Agrees To Reopen Debate On Film Permit Regulations

Mon, July 16th, 2007 by Susan B.

Following a request from the NYCLU, New York City has agreed to reopen the period for members of the public to submit comments about a controversial new city proposal that would require formal permits for a wide range of casual photography. Last Friday the City informed the NYCLU that it now will accept comments until Friday August 3.

The New York Civil Liberties Union says the proposed rules, as strictly interpreted, could cause selective and perhaps discriminatory enforcement by police. The ruling was designed with professional photographers and filmmakers in mind, but the obscure language draws no distinctions.

I sincerely doubt that the law, after a hunderd years of photographing and filming in NY, is suddenly being chanaged so critically.

This is the agenda of people who are afraid of citizens with cameras filming the truth of life events. The main stream media won't do it, so we must and that won't be tolerated by them.

Don't be fooled by their BS, it is not about professional filmakers, it is about professional truthers.

I saw the Magnum blog had this up there recently, along with a petition to sign (http://www.pictureny.org/petition/).

I think it's retarded they are even trying to talk like this.
