Macro Mania Monday

Thu, August 12th, 2004 by Tudy

Ive taken the plunge and have decided to start a new meme called Macro Mania. The site will be theme based and be used as a site for people to post links to their favorite Macro shots. I decided to make this a Macro photo meme mainly because I havent found another site dealing strickly with Macros and secondly because I not only enjoy Macro work and find it a bit more challenging but because I also enjoy so much visiting others that post Macros on a regular basis, like Sensitive light., Photomo, Jake Howlett and a host of others.

The site wont actually go live until Sept 6th but I have the site up and ready. Anyone can start sending photos to be presented as best of the week up until the 12th of September for the first theme of Fruit. At the end of each week I will post one photo that I found the most impressive, if only to myself. I have plans later, if the site catches on of maybe having a voting system for the best of the best, but for now the one photo a week chosen by myself will have to suffice. If anyone has any suggestions or needs help please feel free to email me. My email link is listed on the right hand column of the site.

I hope that you will all give it a try and if you don't know how to take Macros here are a few links that might help.

Photo Friday has announced a new challenge in addition to the weekly challenge. The new challenge is called Photo Friday Extra Challenge. Unlike the regular challenge the extra challenge has rules. The current extra challenge is "Analog" and only has one rule, no images are allowed from digital cameras. I encourage everyone to check out the new Photo Friday Extra Challenge.

Reading Photos

Wed, July 21st, 2004 by Jay

I recently read an article that stated in 2002, only 57% of Americans read a book. In Canada, a mere 6% of those surveyed said they spend their free time reading. According to a survey done in 1998 by the Department of Canadian Heritage, only 61% of Canadians had read a book in the last twelve months.

Recently, I recommended a book to Lynn, and it occured to me that it might be fun to start a website dedicated to the marriage of literature and photography.

What I have in mind is this:

Photos of people reading
Photos that remind you of a book
(for example, if you snap a shot of an old man yelling out a window to a boy on the street - "You there, Boy - what day is this?")
Photos that were inspired by a book
Photos of books
... etc, etc, etc.

If you like this idea and would like to participate, please send photos to:

artiseverywhere@gmail.com

Once the site is built, it will be here.

Thanks in advance to anyone who participates.

Blogger Week at Photojunkie

Mon, June 7th, 2004 by photojunkie

So I am doing a special meme on my site this week. Blogger Week on Photojunkie.ca. Everyday this week, i will be posting various portraits and candids of various bloggers I have met over the years.

I kicked off the week with a self portrait, but more more importantly, I have posted photos of two Toronto photobloggers, Jon and Jay who are celebrating their birthdays today.

You can view Jon's site at Groundglass and you can view Jay's site at Stop Looking at the Ground, The World is up here.

Do you have any blogger portraits to share?

Enjoy.

Wear your heart on your sleeve and show your patriotism to our great country.

disclosure.ca is a growing collection of photographs that explore Canada and what it means to be Canadian. Disclosure's ultimate goal is to eventually have contributions from every territory, province, city and town within Canada, but we can't do so without your help. Therefore we're asking that you take a moment to look over the site and contribute your favourite Canadian pics; this can include just about anything, as long as it's related to our wonderful country in one way or another.

The individual that submits the best photo this year will win $100CDN!

Paul is also urging everyone to participate in the Canada Day Challenge. On July 1st, pull out your cameras and share your country with the rest of the world.

    Got project?

Sat, May 29th, 2004 by gwen

There's a little disagreement whether Emily's post asking for submissions for her artzine is a conflict of interest or not, and it got me thinking about some of the great side projects run by the Photoblogs blog regulars:

Brandon's PhotoMemes (and some other site I can't remember ;) Heather's Mirror Project
    Rannie's photojunkie
    Karen's 50 States

    I'll bet there are a bunch more I don't know about -- where's yours?

    Meme: Adolescence and Adulthood

Fri, May 28th, 2004 by Emily (Beautiful Life)

Hello. Like I've said before I am Emily of Beautiful Life (or see weblog). This is all the identification I can give you now. I currently have nothing of substance to show you of Melange Magazine, a new magazine I am working on with a few others, for which I am looking for photos that fit the debut issue's 'Adolescence and Adulthood' theme.

'Melange' is not purely a photography magazine. It will feature opinion articles, fiction, essays, film and book reviews, but there will also be a collection of photographs in every issue which goes with the theme.

    Send all submissions to emilyATholeinmyhead.net
    Obviously, replace AT with @.
Hope to see them flooding my mailbox soon!
Where possible, send a link instead of an attachment.
